I 'LOST' the web page I minimized!!!! HELP PLEASE!!!
Published on August 26, 2008 By gardenspook In Docks

Hi Everyone!

First of all, I want to thank all of the fantastic artists who have made my PCs look so beautiful!  When I get enough courage, I'm gonna give it a try.  Unfortunately, since I'm still a novice at just using my PCs, I'll have to rely on the kindness of strangers!      I'd also like to add that I know I'm probably asking really stupid questions, but please have mercy on me;  I'm a self-taught PC-user and I have SO MUCH I have to learn yet.  I know I should probably learn more about the so-called 'important things' a computer-user should know.....it's just that I learn better when I'm in a beautiful environment.  That's why I like to make my Desktops and all the other parts of the OS gorgeous.....it encourages learning!  So, if I may ask you, PLEASE use lots of details when telling me what I need to do to get the results I want.  Thank you for your patience....and for not laughing at me for too long.

So here are my details:Laptop---Toshiba Satellite A135-S4527---Windows Vista Home Premium

                                  Desktop---Dell Dimension 8200---WindowsXP Home, SP-2

I have all software & drivers up-to-date; my Dell desktop has a brand-new 160 GB hard drive; 768 MB RDRAM.                   My Toshiba Laptop has 1GB DDR RAM; Intel Pentium Dual-Core Processors; Intel Mobile 945 Chipset Graphics Card....and I can't remember anything else that you might need to know.  If I forgot something, just ask!

I have TrendMicro Internet Security Pro installed on both as my AV/AS/Firewall and all-around Protector of my life on the Internet! (I only have about 6 years of experience, but I learned about TrendMicro when "TechTV" was on, and both Leo LaPorte ("Screensavers") and Chris Pirillo (a.k.a. 'Lockergnome'----"Call For Help") said how great it was, so I bought it, installed it, and I've been hooked ever since!  It's up-to-date and I've been problem-free since, well at least my PCs are mostly 'problem-free'!

I finally got all of my shortcuts, taskbar items and a Windows "start" button organized....put them all in the Object Dock Plus space at the bottom of my desktop, and I started to browse the Web last night.  I was interrupted, so I 'minimized' the page I was on, did what was needed, but when I came back to my Laptop, I couldn't find my page......ANYWHERE!!!!  I searched the dock several times, (especially the 'Internet' and 'Google' icons), and my page just vanished!

How can I tell OD+ that besides letting my taskbar icons mix in with it's icons that I also need to have a place where my open Web pages can go when I minimize them?  What setting am I missing in the configuration process???

And finally, despite setting up the "Weather" icon (with the 5-day outlook), I can't get it to work.   I always get this message; "feed not available...try again later."

As you can see, I don't have life-threatening troubles here, but I really want to get this dock to do EXACTLY what I need it to do; I'm especially concerned about the 'lost' minimized page.....where did it go, and how do I set up an area in my dock where web pages, etc., can go when I minimize them???

That's all for now;  when the laughter subsides, I'm hoping that someone will help me set my dock up correctly.

Thanks in advance for your MUCH APPRECIATED help.

Gratefully,

gardenspook

If you're using OD+, why not make a separate dock for the taskbar items [open windows] itself? That way you won't get confused between minimized windows and other shortcuts.

Or, you'll see that in your dock, the icons and taskbar items are separated with a seperator, meaning that your icons and shortcuts won't mix with your taskbar windows at all!

As for the disappearing minimized page, I have no idea myself [novice here ] and it has never happened with me either, so I can't tell where a minimized window disappeared.
But hey, what if your browser crashed or possibly the minimized window got closed somehow? Did you check the taskbar itself for the minimized window? Was it there?

For the Weather problem: It happens quite often, but how do you write your location? If you're using zip codes, I can't help you because I don't write them, but if you like the city and country name like this:
City Name, Country Name
it might work. Remember the comma and the space after it

Also, here's the WC Wiki's OD page, with a load of useful links to learn more.

I'll have to rely on the kindness of strangers!

Strangers? Where? I don't see any.....

That's all for now; when the laughter subsides, I'm hoping that someone will help me set my dock up correctly.

You might want to post a screenshot of your current OD setup for a little bit more idea

Here's the Newbie's Corner and how to take a screenshot.

Have fun

Hi Everyone!

Thanks for the quick response, Pixelo, and 'Thanks' for not making me feel like an idiot!

My goal was to eliminate ALL unnecessary stuff on my Desktop so that I could see my wallpaper, and having just that tiny strip of icons across the bottom seemed to be the perfect solution. If I put the taskbar items in their own dock, I STILL don't know where my 'minimized' pages will show up in the other dock. Am I making sense?????

As far as the Weather dock, I've been putting City, State and Zip Code; I'll try just using
City and State. I guess it's true what they say....sometimes less is more.

thanks again for the input!

Don't mention it

I STILL don't know where my 'minimized' pages will show up in the other dock.

When you create a separate dock for the taskbar windows, ALL your open [minimized/mazimized/resized/hidden/etc] windows will be displayed on that dock. Just click any of them to switch to that particular window
